It takes a village to raise a child — and this is especially true when raising a bilingual child. Trying to raise your child to speak Korean alone is a mistake.
As parents, it’s our responsibility to create a nurturing community around our children — one that can support their language growth and help them thrive.
Start by thinking about the people around you who can contribute today:
- Family members who can speak Korean
- Caregivers or friends who can engage your child in the language
- Local or online communities for Korean-speaking children
Create meaningful social environments and actively involve these people in your child’s learning. Playdates, storytime sessions, or casual conversations in Korean can make a huge difference.
Parents still have the greatest impact on their child’s success, and the steps we take truly matter. But there’s no need to do it all on your own. By using your time and resources wisely and building a supportive community, you increase your child’s opportunities to learn Korean naturally and consistently.
